Hello adventurer! In today’s quest, we’re going to explore the depths of what it means when someone talks about the ‘user experience‘ of a video game. What happens when it’s good vs when it’s bad?

WHAT IS ‘USER EXPERIENCE‘?

If a game feels like it’s reading your mind, making everything flow naturally, and letting you stay immersed for hours without frustration or confusion - that is UX working behind the scenes.

From the player’s point of view, great UX often goes unnoticed… because it should. You’re not supposed to be thinking about it—you’re just vibing and having fun in the game.

A good User Experience (UX) is that subtle magic that makes you think, “Yeah, I totally know where to go,” even if no one told you. It’s why you know which areas you can climb on and where you can’t, the UI is actually helpful and doesn’t get in your way, you have the information you need at hand when you need it, and why leveling up gives you that little dopamine hit.

💢 But when the experience (UX) is bad? Oh, you’ll know. Buttons are clunky to use, interactions are unclear, menus are confusing, and you get lost in the tutorial. That frustration builds up fast, and suddenly, that super cool game you paid your hard-earned money for… doesn’t look so appealing anymore.

TLDR: Game experience (UX) is basically how smooth, fun, and frustration-free your time with a game feels. It is how the full game comes together to give a clear and great experience.
